Welcome to the desert!

Welcome friends, family, and procrastinating onlookers.

I though it was about the right time in my life to start a blog- if getting married and moving to The Middle East isn't, then what is hey? Iain and I will attempt to bring the latest updates of our adventures in and across the United Arab Emirates and wherever our travels and McDonalds free wi-fi takes us. So farewell Melbourne for now, we will miss you!

So.. 3 weeks down in the sandpit; brunches, high teas, and sandstorms later, we're living the high life on a backpackers budget- but loving it!

I've started work in The City Hospital and after about a week and a half I had a strange feeling like something wasn't right.. Some would call it home sickness, others culture shock, mum would call it 'missing mums cooking'. Then it hit me- I was saturated with the Arabic top 40 countdown on repeat! Got straight home and downloaded like the whole of the Triple J hitlist and felt instant relief.. A much needed piece of home life I was missing. Ahh morning trips to work are now bearable :)

With our well made plans of exploring every inch of the city on the weeknights; one ten hour working day down for me, and our aim for the week shifted to now to perching in front of the couch and watching unseen movies (shock horror, I admit I have never seen Harry potter up until now). We also had a very exciting discovery our first week – was that we have incredible internet! After going from 12GB a month for 5+1 family members, with this high speed connection the possibilities are limitless! Needless to say we are now well into the latest season of deadliest catch and community, and loving being sans adds! I know I know, downloading series has been the thing to do for years, but being a girl that never had time for TV, this downloading thing has got me hooked. It sunk in that moving oversees is actually a big deal, a very tiring deal, and we were due for a rest.

So, I guess I'll finish with an open thankyou to this crazy city and to the VISS teachers who have made us feel very welcome, and our fabulous, speedy Internet connection.

Hallus for now, much more to write as soon as I can peel myself out of the air-conditioned room and across the 6 lanes of traffic to get some groceries. Or shall I order in with free delivery? This place breeds laziness!

Enjoy and so long!
